
Like elsewhere in Turkey, football is the sport which
arouses the greatest interest in Antalya and its team, Antalyaspor, plays in the
professional leagues.In addition to football, the
very wide interest in sport has resulted in 117 sports clubs being registered in Antalya
and cover football, volleyball, basketball, handball, shooting, wrestling, table tennis,
athletics, swimming, cross country running, archery, fencing, cycling, boxing, tennis,
gymnas ties, weight lifting, hunting, etc. In addition, aquatic sports and riding are gain
ing in popularity as the number of holiday villages in the region increase.
The traditional grease wrestling competitions are held
annually in the autumn in Elmali, Korkuteli and in the historically famous Aspendos
theatre to an enthusiastic audience. |

from Antalya can be found the newly opened ski resort of Saklikent, overlooking the
Mediterranean, which offers very good ski runs. Thus Antalya, famous for sun and sea, has
the distinction of also offering winter sports facilities during the winter months.
From late September to the end of January every year, the
mountain goat (Persian Ibex) and wild boar hunts are organized in Antalya's Termessos
National Park. Due to the increasing number of foreign hunters taking part in these hunts,
this sport has taken on an international character.
